The Volunteer Patrol Unit is ready to roll. You can help to make it a success...

The group of VPU volunteers (Volunteer Patrol Unit) headed by MC Mak and supported by Councillor Rajiv, met up with Tuan Loi, Chief Inspector at the USJ8 Police Station. The informal meeting held last night at the USJ 8 Police Station was meant to update Tuan Loi on the development of this VPU group and also to explore ways and means to make it more cohesive and effective. Tuan Loi, as always, promised his whole hearted support and also threw in some measure of advice and tips to get the job done.

The Police would also consider the possibility of providing a Police personnel to ride along with the VPU Patrol to make it even more effective. It was a very fruitful meeting and members came away more confident and reassured of the success of this project.

Mr Mak announced at the meeting that Councillor Rajiv would be sponsoring a vest to members for group identification.

The success of this project to help curb crime in the neighbourhood will depend entirely on volunteers. Whilst the group of volunteers have increased, many more are still needed. And the more volunteers there are, the greater the area the group can patrol and for over a longer period. So if you can find the time (just 2 hours lah!!), and the will to contribute towards community effort, this is a noble one that you should and could consider. Besides, you would be able to make more friends from the group of volunteers and also get to know the police personnel better. If you are game, Mr Mak will be very glad to hear from you. You can reach him at 012 383 6508 and his emal is mcmak64@hotmail.com.

CRIME PREVENTION STARTS WITH YOU !

VPU (Voluntary Patrol Unit)....Learn more about it...

Recently this writer went on patrol and what an eye-opener it turned out to be. Together with Eddie from USJ2, Azhar and Private Asrul from USJ 8 police station. Our patrol took us around the USJ2 precinct. The number of houses we came across with gates not locked and a number even without their main door locked, other than their grill. Believe it or not, there was a house that even left the main door of the house ajar! It is little wonder that these days burglars and robbers are having a field day. People are so apathetic, it was just unbelievable!! One has to do these patrols to see for themselves. This made me decide that the best way to share the experience with forumers and residents was to put it all down in pictorial form.

Folks, this is a very noble and worthwhile project to protect the very neighbourhood that we live in. Come forward and join these volunteers. MC Mak created this and has continued to put the project to work. Everyone can contribute to make it a bigger success by just contributing 2 hours or more a month. Two hours a week would be even better! It's also an opportunity to meet other residents and your neighbourhood police officers. It's soooo easy to join. Just call Mak at:012 383 6508 or email him at : mcmak64@hotmail.com. and Mak will fit you in.

LRT Route Extension to Subang Jaya

A Dialogue Briefing on the LRT Route Extension was held at the 3K Complex in Subang Jaya. About 500 residents eagerly turned up to gather more information on the planned extension. Also present was the Minister of Transport Dato Sri Ong Tee Keat. The brief by Prasarana Sdn Bhd was led by their Group MD Dato Idrose bin Mohamed.

Dato Idrose explained that the plan was only a proposal and there may be changes but residents will be given 3 months to provide feedback and objections, if any, after their final proposal was drafted and presented to the public. In his brief, he stressed that the route of the extension would try to avoid residential areas wherever possible, and that due consideration would be given to safeguard the environment and residents concern.

He went on to explain that the new route would run from Subang and the first stop would link up to the existing KTM Komuter behind Carrefour. The route would then run along Persiaran Jenka, past the NPE and straight to KESAS. The route would then ride on the reserved land along KESAS before touching Kewajipan, turn towards Summit and then all the way along Kewajipan until it ends up at Putra Height. This is the route in brief.

There will be 13 stations, with a few Park & Ride stations, one of which will be the USJ 21 multi storey carpark that is currently under-utilised. Most of the Park & Ride stations should have about 1000 to 1500 car park lots.

After the briefing, the question and answer session took on a very dynamic scenario with many comments, suggestions and questions. One of the expected question raised was why the route did not extend past Sunway. Prasarana explained that this was due to technical problems and obstruction caused by the few flyover structures at Kewajipan, but they would take this request into consideration. Moderator Raymond Tan had his hands full as some residents took up more than their allocated time whilst some others were overcome by more than just excitement.
